music na naman

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

Hehe, this is kind of unusual because I’ll be sort of promoting myspace eventhough I dont have an account there. It’s just that I found myself straying at myspace.com because bands such as chevelle, dave matthews, etc. have music samples posted alongside their profiles. The good thing is I dont even have to sign up to listen to their music.

this is my recent discovery - Raised By Swans… Ive been googling for this band but I couldnt find the lyrics of their songs. I highly recommend listening to their “Violet Light.” - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user. viewprofile&friendID=22806563

Browsing through myspace… I found Tegan and Sara. I love their Walking with a Ghost and I Know I Know I Know. - http://www.myspace.com/teganandsara

Here are some links for music heads who want to listen to the following:

Chevelle - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=2704464

Eisley (first heard in one of the CDs that Mark S. lent me) - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=2950136

Aqualung (brighter than sunshine) - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=18709984

The Sounds (parang 80s glam rock sounding) - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=3087303

Pepper (their “Give It Up” song, i first heard it over klite… i find this song funny) - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=4851148

There are a lot of artists in there… I just couldnt list them down here all at once.

a piece of peace

My favorite spot in Makati is in Gamboa St., Legazpi Village - the park behind Corinthians Bldg. in Paseo de Roxas. It’s a piece of “green” amid the concrete jungle. I love this park compared to the well-landscaped Greenbelt Park because there are trees scattered across the former… and most of all, it is not as crowded as the latter.

I used to frequent this park (i dont know its name but lets just call it Gamboa Park na lng), this is where I take a break with Fides and Miko, eating, talking, or just sitting and enjoying a stress-free moment (however short it may be). It is only months after I last visited the spot that I went back to kill time at Gamboa Park by myself… and I am glad I did.

It was past 130pm and I still havent eaten lunch… Dizziness worsened because the office across where I work is being renovated, paint fumes suffocated me. So I decided to have a lunch-out… On my way to GB, I decided to eat my lunch at the park… So minutes later, I was sitting on one of the benches, eating my KFC chicken steak lunch. What could be nicer than eating lunch while hearing birds chirping and feeling the soft wind breeze and warm touch of the sun. I should do this often before we move to Salcedo Village… It eases the exhaustion I feel and the suffocation I feel for hours and hours of stay in an airconditioned office.

emo/punk rock

Friday, January 20th, 2006

The past few days I have been listening to loads of punk and emo rock music… Some of the songs from Story of the Year, I’ve discovered are quite poetic.

Here’s a couple of my faves:

Anthem of Our Dying by Story of the Year

The stars will cry the blackest tears tonight
And this is the moment that I live for
I can smell the ocean air
Here I am, pouring my heart onto these rooftops
Just a ghost to the world
That’s exactly, exactly what I need

From up here, the city lights burn
Like a thousand miles of fire
And I’m here to sing this anthem of our dying day

(wow, very emotional song… not even a ballad could beat that)

This Photograph is Proof by Taking Back Sunday

Well, I’ll wait till you listen
I won’t say a word
to follow your instincts
just never worked for me
your silent but strong, (yeah, I’m playing that card)
and your noticing nothing again

(this one is from Spiderman 2 OST… sniff, sniff)

All of these can be heard at http://webjay.org/by/music_monica/music_monica5c27splaylist
One of the songs Ive listened to has an Urbandub-feel, i think its the Car Underwater song….

this one is good too - http://webjay.org/by/ghetosmurph/playlist1

my OC trip planner self is back… and I am happy about that. We finally bought tickets for my dream vacation - Palawan! I could not stop smiling just thinking of it but i have to contain myself because malayo-layo pa ung trip. For now, I am gathering more info on the places we will go to. I just hope things will turn out fine… Part of the itinerary is El Nido… No, we are not going to stay at one of those plush and expensive resorts. Thats waaay too expensive… There is a cheaper way to go to and stay in El Nido. I’ll share the info when I write my travel account months later.

Anyway, at the ticketing station in GB1, I was standing beside this girl who will inquire about flights for Cebu and Davao. She saw the booking slip I have on hand and asked me about where we are going to stay in Puerto Princesa. Rosary and I said, we are not so sure yet though I am already considering Lola Itangs. We asked where she is going, sabi nya Cebu daw… and we told her - you better visit Malapascua while in Cebu. Ayun, I ended up giving her my number and she, her email address as I promised to send her the itinerary and expenses estimate we used last year. In return, she told us not to miss the underground river and the honda bay tour. It’s nice to meet this kind of people. I remember when we went to Sagada in October 2004, we bumped into someone whom I met in the Pex Travel and Leisure forum. They arrived there a day ahead of us so we picked up some helpful tips from them. My only regret while in Sagada, I forgot to try eating breakfast at Masferres.

new music finds

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

as much as i want to get some sun, I dont want to leave my desk because
I am hooked listening to playlists i found at www.webjay.org.

Right now, i am listening to a punk rock playlist… It has Sugar We’re
Going Down by Fallout Boy and Heres To the night by Eve 6… Thank God
for these playlists.

Anyway, while browsing through the list of songs, i just find myself
saying… Wow this world is just overflowing with many wonderful music.
Music is as dynamic as human beings… it evolves each day…

I am sure there are still a lot of genres and music waiting to be
discovered… Even in the local scene, we have so much to listen to… to be
discovered.

There was a time that I contemplated going home to Iloilo but one of
the reasons why I was hesitant to do so… I’ll surely miss the live
music scene Manila offers.

I am lucky that I am just two blocks away from one of those venues that
features new, underground, and independent bands… even the
fast-rising bands. And it’s not that expensive, PHp 100, that’s
enough

Anyway, the last week of December 2005, Rizzalyn, Jolan, and I met up
at 6UG… That night the lineup was unknown bands… I am only familiar
with wickermoss and dale ibay in the lineup. Still we went in and
there was this one band, everything’s good - the drummer, the
guitarists… well, except for the vocalist. The three of us just looked at each
other while listening to that band, thinking "sayang naman."

That’s one setback of watching a lineup of unknown bands, you have to
brace yourself for surprises - it may be a pleasant or an unwelcome surprise but
still it is a good way to discover something new.

over my head

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

This is my current favorite song - The Fray’s Over My Head (Cable Car)

Because I cant find that other song that still bothers me most of the time, I settled for this The Fray song. Nah, just kidding. Anyway, “Over My Head” is always played over klite… but if you really want to hear this song right now, here’s a link to the song - http://webjay.org/by/headspacej/webjaymellow–slowerandmelodic

Over My Head

I never knew
I never knew that everything was falling through
That everyone I knew was waiting on a queue
To turn and run when all I needed was the truth
But that’s how it’s got to be
It’s coming down to nothing more than apathy
I’d rather run the other way than stay and see
The smoke and who’s still standing when it clears

Everyone knows I’m in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She’s on your mind
She’s on your mind

Let’s rearrange
I wish you were a stranger I could disengage
Say that we agree and then never change
Soften a bit until we all just get along
But that’s disregard
Find another friend and you discard
As you lose the argument in a cable car
Hanging above as the canyon comes between

And suddenly I become a part of your past
I’m becoming the part that don’t last
I’m losing you and its effortless
Without a sound we lose sight of the ground
In the throw around
Never thought that you wanted to bring it down
I won’t let it go down till we torch it ourselves

For Urbandub fans, the band will play at SaGuijo this month. On January 21, they will share the stage with Sugarfree and on January 28, they will mark the end of their bar tour with The Ambassadors and Angulo. (check www.saguijo.com for sked)

nasaan ka

Wednesday, January 4th, 2006

Aside from my current LSS na hindi ko mahanap ang title at artist basta pagkinanta ko ito ang lyrics lng na alam ko - Disappointed, disillusioned… We bought the story to tell… is this the best of it (me). Naku sino sa inyo ang alam to? Please let me know kung sino kumanta nito at anong title ng song… Please, please…

Aside from that unknown song, I am so in love with Nasaan Ka ng Pupil. It has guitar riffs similar to Kent’s 747… parang ang haunting na basta sad (listen to the guitar part sa latter part ng song (part, part…

Sabi nya daw basta lng pala naglalaro say ang isang basketbolista to satisfy one’s self and not to excel. Eh sabi ko i didnt say excellence and satisfaction are one thing, it could be that one player just wants to satisfy his quest for excellence thats why he practices and gives his best. But even if he already excels at times he wont be satisfied… he’ll want something more than excellence in basketball. Basta parang ganun. basta mahabang kwento. Ang point ko is hindi madaling masatisfy ang tao… Ayun sinumbong ko kay rizzalyn… LOL… di naman ako napikon, pero naasar lng. Ano nga ba ang difference ng napikon sa naasar? Duh?! matulog na nga

fresh start

A couple of new likes in the new year…

1) jason mraz and raul midon’s keep on hoping

Did you ever wish you could get away even for a day where they dont know your name
Do I ever think I could find someone who could be the one to love

2) dishwalla’s far away

Far Away as you shoot across the sky
Far Away to the corners of my mind
Sooner or later, it will slowly come back to me

3) pupil’s nasaan ka?

4) urban dub’s first of summer

5) kings of convenience’s misread

If you wanna be my friend
You want us to get along
Please do not expect me to
Wrap it up and keep it there

and I am liking Lost the series… I caught it on studio 23 for the first time. No wonder my officemates got so hook.
